Samajwadi Party MLA from Amroha, former Cabinet Minister, and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Mehboob Ali, was stopped by police on Thursday before leaving for Rampur in support of Johar University.
According to Mehboob Ali, he was scheduled to leave with his supporters for Rampur, but police prevented him from stepping out of his residence, citing instructions from the Uttar Pradesh government. He alleged that the action amounted to a violation of democratic rights.
Following the police action, Samajwadi Party workers gathered outside his residence and raised slogans against the government in protest. Heavy police deployment remained at the spot to maintain law and order.
